The former Prime Minister of Portugal, Jose Socrates , has been remanded in police custody on suspicions of, Corruption, money laundering and and Tax Fraud.57 year old Jose Socrates was detained on his return from Paris on Friday, where he already spent 3 nights in Jail.
The Judges decision to have him remanded was made after investigations showed suspicious money transfers and banking operations. Mr Socrates who continues to deny any wrong doing, is being investigated alongside, his driver, a close friend and Lawyer.
Sources say the decision to detain Socrates has sent shock waves through Portuguese Politics.
