In the just concluded Sri Lanka presidential elections, current president Mahinda Rajapaksa lost to Maithripala Sirisena. Rajapaksa twitted about the defeat on his official twitter handle on Friday. "I value and respect our democratic process and the world's verdict, and look forward to the peaceful transition of power."
Rajapaksa who held office for a decade was often referred to as being a corrupt and nepotistic leader. According to CNN reports, Sirisena is expected to be sworn in at 6 p.m local time in Colombo's Independence square, Dhanushka Ramanayake.
