A re-trial has been ordered for Hosni Mubarak by an Egyptian court. The court overturned his convictions for embezzlement and killing of protesters during the uprising. His embezzelement charges include billing the government for $17M of personal expenses. However, the court which overturned the verdict, discovered legal procedures were not properly followed.

In late May 2011, it was announced by judicial officials that Mubarak and his two sons Alaa and Gamal would stand trial over the deaths of anti-government protesters. Subsequently a protracted series of court sessions were held. Mubarak has always maintained his innocence in the these matters and even mentioned at a re-trial in August that he was approaching the end of his life "with good conscience."
