Earlier this week, 24 year old Liverpool Striker, Mario Balotelli put up a post on Instagram which appeared to contain racist references. well.... it went viral and within minutes he had a lot of Instagram users and anti-discrimination groups calling him out on social Media.
He quickly deleted the post from his Instagram page of Nintendo computer game character super Mario . page and tweeted to deny the post was offensive. The picture posted had an image of super mario with the caption "don't be racist".
"Be like Mario, he's an Italian Plumber, created by Japanese people, who speaks English and looks like a Mexican, He jumps like a black man and grabs coins like a Jew."
A spokesman for the Anti discrimination group Kick out" forwarded the post to the Football Associaton and asked them to look into the matter. Balotelli was then given till Friday to respond to criticisms. In his response Balotelli tweeted, My mum is a Jew so all of you shut up please."
However, he later wrote" I apologise if I have offended anyone.
